Antique Silver Gorham Versailles

Antique Silver Gorham Versailles

This magnificent antique silver flatware service was just acquired from a local resident. This is the first time in 100 years that it is offered for sale! It was passed down through family generations as attested to by the various monograms and dates beginning in 1888. In the olden days, when a girl came of age she chose a silver pattern, many times long before she chose her mate. Often she would choose the pattern of her mother, grandmother or favorite aunt who would in turn pass their silver on to her. These antique sterling pieces have the beauty of aged patina and the warmth of the silver. They tell the story of the generations past who have used and enjoyed it.
Gorham is one of the top American manufacturers of sterling silver and the Versailles pattern is one of the most beloved. This intricate pattern was designed by Anton Heller and introduced by Gorham in 1885. It is Heller's most famous pattern. He went to great lengths to make different scenes on the terminal of the pieces, all inspired by the Palace of Versailles in Paris It is no wonder that the White House has used Gorham silver services during many administrations. You can see a list of the pieces below. All are in good condition with no damage. The monograms and dates are inscribed on the reverse.
